Sod Delivery, Installation & Care
Once your sod arrives, it's critical that it's installed first thing in the morning, especially during our hot summer months, even winter months also.
The sod is cut fresh from the fields, harvested then put on a pallet, and loaded on a large flat bed semi truck.
All sod is moved around by a forklift, that's attached to the back of the semi truck.
When it's delivered to your home or business, it will come on a 4' x 4' pallet.
Usually each pallet of sod has 500 or 600 square feet of sod on it, it all depends on the amount of sod you order.
Sod comes in 100 square foot increments. If you order 2500 square feet of sod, you would receive 5 pallets of sod, each pallet would have 500 square feet of sod.
One of the most important things regarding your sod installation, is once the sod is in place that it gets enough water at first. If the sod doesn't get enough water at first it will start going into "shock", where it starts turing a bluish-gray color. Then it will take lots more water to return to that nice green color. This is especially important in our hot summer months.
Before you put the sod down, ususally you don't need to fertilize the soil before the sod's installed. At the farm it's been fertilized.
We recommend you fertilize after your sod's been in the ground for at least a month. Then, during the summer months, you should fertilize every 6 to 8 weeks. During the winter months to fertilize every 8 to 10 weeks. If the grass starts turning a little yellow, that usually indicates it's time to fertilize.
After your grass has been in for 7 to 10 days, it's time to mow your lawn. If you wait too long, you can scalp the grass. This doesn't damage the grass, but it doesn't look as nice.
